MEET THE FOUNDER

A physical therapist’s answer to the brace that won’t stay up.

In his physical therapy practice, Eric Rippetoe heard the same complaint again and again: patients spent their day pulling their knee braces back up and re-tightening the straps. Off-the-shelf braces are built for an average leg, and on a real leg they slide.

He realized the answer was already in the patient’s anatomy. With an accurate 3D scan of the leg, he could build a brace that anchors to the back of the calf, so the calf’s natural shape holds it in place. No constant adjusting, just a brace that fits the leg it was made for. That idea became BISHOP.

As BISHOP’s CEO, Eric Rippetoe oversees all aspects of business and product development.

Before founding BISHOP, Eric practiced physical therapy in both the outpatient and home health settings.

In Fall 2018, he began combining his skills in 3D printing/design with his knowledge of biomechanics and injury mechanisms to develop the BISHOP custom knee brace, a 3D-printed brace built to stay in place during demanding, high-impact activity.
